It slept in you like a dry fibroma, like a thin tapeworm, a dream,
now it crushes the gravel, now it shakes its own shadow; now it screeches,
swallows, urinates, having always waited for the taste
of camomile, the rabbit’s temperature, the noise of the hail,
the shape of the roof, the color of straw:
without remedy time
turns back on its days: the earth offers confused images;
will it know how to recognize the goat, farmer, cannon?
Not these forceps it truly hoped, not this pear,
when it trembled in your sack of opaque membranes.

In te dormiva come un fibroma asciutto, come una magra tenia, un sogno;
ora pesta la ghiaia, ora scuolte la propria ombra; ora stride,
deglutisce, orina, avendo atteso da sempre il gusto
della camomilla, la temperatura della lepre, il rumore della grandine,
la forma del tetto, il colore della paglia:
senza rimedio il tempo
si è rivolto verso i suoi giorni; la terra offre immagini confuse,
saprà riconoscere la capra, il contadino, il cannone?
Non queste forbici veramente sperava, non questa pera,
quando tremava in quel tuo sacco di membrane opache.
