In delirium, he trampled upon roses
and upon the white body he loved.
With every bruise I prostrated myself even more,
oh creature’s sob in vain.
He trampled upon roses,
he flung his fist
and his crazy spit
at the forehead he loved.
His evil was fiercer
than my torment.
But, as I escaped,
then make me die,
die of his evil.
(Transl. by D. Foglia)
Rose calpestava nel suo delirio
e il corpo bianco che amava.
Ad ogni lividura più mi prostravo,
oh singhiozzo invano di creatura.
Rose calpestava,
s’abbatteva il pugno
e folle lo sputo
sulla fronte che adorava.
Feroce il suo male
più di tutto il mio martirio.
Ma, or che son fuggita,
ch’io muoia,
muoia del suo male.
